SUMMARY:Presentation Evening - National Highways Traffic Officers
DESCRIPTION:National Highways Traffic Officers – Guest Presentation \nTuesday 17th March – 7:30pm\nSherfield on Loddon Village Hall (near A33\, 5 miles before Basingstoke towards the M3)\nHall open from 7:00pm \nWe are delighted to welcome representatives from National Highways for a 45-minute presentation to RoSPA RoADAR Thames Valley Group. \nThis promises to be a fascinating insight into: \n What National Highways actually does on the Strategic Road Network\n What it does not do (and how it differs from the police and local authorities)\n The legal powers of Traffic Officers\n How incidents are managed on motorways and major A-roads\n Red-X compliance\, lane closures and live carriageway safety\n Real-world operational experiences — including some interesting (and possibly humorous) stories from the network \nAs advanced drivers and riders\, we regularly use the strategic road network and benefit from understanding the systems\, procedures and safety measures that operate behind the scenes. \nThis is an excellent opportunity to deepen our knowledge\, ask informed questions\, and gain operational insight that directly enhances our own roadcraft and hazard awareness. \nWe encourage strong attendance — this is exactly the sort of professional engagement that strengthens our understanding and improves our standards. \n Present

SUMMARY:September Rideout - White Horses of Wiltshire + 1
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nRun Leader: Gemma \nDistance: 160 miles \nStart Time: 10AM \nStarting Point: Podium Place\, 31A Bone Ln\, Newbury RG14 5SH \nFinish Time: 4:30PM \nPace: Relaxed \n  \nSome of you may have joined this ride in years past\, but it’s been a while and I’ve revised the route and ensured we have a good view and good roads. On this ride with one exception\, we are going to enjoy the marvelous roads of Wiltshire which will reveal the white horses. \nWe will start from the Podium Place in Newbury at 10AM sharp.\, so be there a little earlier for the briefing. \nWe head north\, to fit in the exception and make our way up to Wantage on the A3349 and then past Uffington via the more technically demanding A4507.  Then we start making our way south west\, picking up one more horse before our first stop at The Dandy Highwayman in Cherhill for some cake and coffee at around 11:20. \nFrom this point\, you are going to have to keep count\, we’ll head through sweeping A and B roads\, with the occasional lane thrown in for good measure. We’ll pass through Broadtown\, Hackpen\, Marlborough\, Alton Barnes and Devizes before popping to the White Horse Café in Westbury around 1:30PM for a spot of lunch. \nAfter lunch we have a couple more horses to see and still staying on the sweeping roads of the Wiltshire countryside we’ll make our way past Westbury to visit Pewsey before starting to head back to Newbury past the lost horse at Inkpen via some of the smaller roads. \nWe’ll finish back at the Podium Place around 4:30PM \n
